Five Things Friday (#35)

It’s Friday! I hope you all had wonderful weeks, and great holidays if you celebrate 4th of July. We had a barbecue with a bunch of friends and family, and it was a wonderful day. I also have family visiting from Washington this week and it’s been a fun week with very little sleep, but it’s always worth it to spend time with them. ❤️

Anyway, here are this week’s five things!

1. Photographer Maria Lax

I’m obsessed with the underexposed, moody blue feel of these. I’m always amazed when a photographer can really establish a unique style, even with such a diverse group of subjects.

2. My Favorite Murder

Will I ever be the person listening to new and trendy podcasts the minute they come out? Probably not. However, I’m finally listening to MFM and I. AM. DYING. I love these women so much. Listening to My Favorite Murder is like hanging out with two friends who love talking about true crime and gross stuff as much as I do. It also helps that they’re from LA and use a lot of the same language patterns, slang, and references that I do. They’re irreverent, filthy, and feminist, and though it took me a full episode to get used to their style, now I don’t want to leave. They’re just so funny and relatable but also smart and sensitive.

3. This tweet:

These are PERFECT. I would read an entire book of these.

4. These planters

These are just so sweet! To me, they represent the thinking of happy and productive thoughts, and I need that energy in my life right now.

5. This forensics expert analyzing crime scenes from movies

Wired’s Technique Critique series is the best!! The linguistics videos are my favorite, but since I’m on a bit of a true crime kick, this is both enjoyable and relevant.

Everybody get some rest and take care of yourselves this weekend! Southern California’s having a major heat wave so I’ll be drinking lots of water and seeking air conditioning.  Whatever you do, rest and enjoy! See you next week!

I am a Ventura, California native with a compulsion to create. I'm a storyteller, through writing, photography, and occasionally music. Weekends are for camping with my husband, reading, and hunting for vintage treasures, which I sell in my Etsy shop, Peace & Goodwill. My favorite things include lavender lattes, swimming in the ocean, true crime podcasts, The X-Files, and Peaky Blinders. I hope to become a full-time writer, bestselling novelist, and a continually improving reflection of God's grace. Proverbs 16:24
