Five Things Friday (#5)

My fifth Five Things Friday! Feels sort of lucky, doesn’t it? This weekend is the beginning of October, and I couldn’t be more excited. I have a girls’ trip to Big Bear, my college roomie visiting from Portland, my birthday, two of my beloved internet friends coming to visit and meet me in person for the first time ever, AND two trips to Disneyland. I feel like I’ve been waiting or October all year and it’s finally here!!!

Let’s celebrate and talk about five really cool things.

1. Noisli

Noisli is a writer’s best friend if you’re like me and need white noise to focus. Like it says above, you can combine different sounds to make a perfectly lush and relaxing soundtrack to your productivity. I like adding rain and thunder over my music, personally, but there are tons of combinations I haven’t even tried.

2. Memorial Stitches

I’m in love with these embroidered art pieces, and I want to buy one of each. Maybe three of the bee one. There are a few spoopy pieces just in time for Halloween, or for all the time if you just really like bats. I know I do.

3. Peaky Blinders Season 4 Trailer

So, this was going to be the first FTF post that mentioned neither Peaky nor Cillian. Then the new trailer dropped at 3:00 this morning. Sorry, not sorry. Season 4 is ALMOST UPON US.

4. Diane Arbus’ photos of Disneyland in 1962

I’ve been a Diane Arbus fan since I learned about her in a photography course I took a couple years ago. I had no idea these photos existed, but it makes me happy to know that I’m not the only one whose shutterbug tendencies are inspired by Disneyland’s surreal landscape. Shout out to the-disney-elite on Tumblr for bringing this to my attention!

“There are wonderful pseudo places at dawn in Disneyland, ruins of Cambodian temples which never existed, false deserts littered with bones of animals who never died; like a shrine for unbelievers. And black swans swim in the moat of a castle which looks like the advertisement for a dream.” – Diane Arbus

5. My new dark hair.

I almost always go dark for the fall, and every time I wonder why I don’t keep it year-round. I love having dark hair. So, y’know, pardon the narcissism but I’m feeling myself this week.

Also, in case you missed it, Across the Formidable Sea is on sale for $7.99 through the end of October. Support your local indie author!

I’m wishing each and every one of you a great weekend and a fruitful October!

Spoopily yours,

Weekends are for camping with my husband, reading, and hunting for vintage treasures, which I sell in my Etsy shop, Peace & Goodwill. My favorite things include lavender lattes, swimming in the ocean, true crime podcasts, The X-Files, and Peaky Blinders. I hope to become a full-time writer, bestselling novelist, and a continually improving reflection of God's grace. Proverbs 16:24
